The mission of the BBFC Cheer program is to provide authentic cheer instruction for youth athletes grades 1-8. We strive to teach: the fundamentals of youth cheer, good sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation, fair play, and character building. Cheer is a challenging sport, comprised of uniformity, constant teamwork, formation changes, complex choreography, skills, stunts, strong voices.
MISSION OF BBFC CHEER

In order to achieve this mission: parents, coaches, and BBFC administration must act as role models, lead by example, and show the utmost proper conduct and sportsmanship. Parents, it's important to remember that your attitude throughout the season is what your athletes will adopt as their attitude. Always stay positive and set a good example at home.

We are proud members of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), which provides: support, training, and rules to ensure the safety of our athletes. All cheerleaders are expected to comply with our attendance policy to be eligible for participation in all games and competitions. Failure to attend practices, actively participate in practices, or behave properly may result in removal from our program.

By participating in the BBFC Cheer program, obligations include:

ATTEND ALL PRACTICES
Cheer is a team sport, with each participant having a required place in routines. When one member is absent, it can keep a whole squad from achieving their goals for that practice, jeopardize the safety of all those involved in stunt groups, and prevent some participants from practicing portions of a routine. The only excused practices are illness or death in the family. Teams practice 3 to 4 days per week in August and 2 to 3 days per week from September through the end of the season.
ARRIVE/END ON TIME, EVERY TIME
Notify your coach immediately of late arrival or absence.
BE PREPARED
- Hair must be pulled back in a ponytail or bun
- Wear proper attire; BBFC practice wear only
- Wear proper shoes; white approved cheer shoes only
- No jewelry - it is a safety hazard
- No nail polish, fake nails, long nails, or hair color (i.e., tinsel, blue, green, purple, pink, etc.)
- No gum allowed at any time
- Cell phones and other devices must remain in cheer bag and turned off as not to disrupt practice
SHOW RESPECT
Cheerleaders and parents must respect coaches, teammates, other teams, parents, and community members at all times.
PARTICIPATE!
Attitude is everything! Cheerleaders should show up every day, excited and ready to learn and perform. All cheerleaders must participate during practices, games, and events to maintain eligibility.
Parent Involvement & Expectations
We love our cheer parents and their involvement! Through your volunteer work, participation, and support we can continue to run a strong, ever-growing and popular program that wins titles year after year. Interested in coaching? We are always looking for individuals who are experienced in the sport of cheer, can learn/teach choreography, and have prior knowledge and expertise in this sport. Our Coaches dedicate an extraordinary amount of time, all season long, to this program. More information can be found on our homepage.
Parental Tips for a Good Season:
Parent Attitude is Everything! Parents set the tone for the program. Attitudes on/off the field, at home, and in the stands is everything. Children are watching and modeling after their parents, always. How you react to setbacks is what your child will deem as appropriate. Leave the bad attitude at home!
Leave the Coaching to the Coaches. Remember to stay positive, trust the process, and leave the coaching to the coaches. There are moving parts to every single decision made by coaches, and decisions change all the time. Coaches base formation and stunting decisions off of many different factors, including ability, effort, participation, teamwork, and safety. Stunt groups will be changed if a coach feels there is a safety risk. Reaction to setbacks is modeled at home. Always encourage your athlete to try hard, do their best, practice at home, and be a good, supportive teammate.
Gossip, bad-mouthing, comparing teams/coaches will NOT be tolerated. Just as we expect the athletes to act with good sportsmanship all season, the parents must also adhere to these rules. We are ONE team in Brighton, regardless of what team an athlete is on. Any parents who violate our parent code of conduct will face consequences.
Why should parents drop off athletes rather than stay and watch practices? While parental support is crucial, the presence of parents during practices can unintentionally heighten pressure on the athletes. Closed practices provide a space where cheerleaders can learn and grow without external expectations, allowing them to concentrate solely on their training and development.
